Literature: An identical pair of palm trees are illustrated in James Archer Abbott, Jansen, Acanthus Press, NY, 2006, p. 159. In Margaret Thompson Biddle's bedroom at Les Embruns, Saint Jean Cap Ferrat, France. A single appears in the firm’s 1963 Washington Antiques Show vignette, p. 38. Another nearly identical pair was offered by Sotheby's, New York, March 16, 2012, Lot 147 with a provenance from The Collection of Lee Radziwill, New York (without the pots) and Provenance Antiques, Inc., New York, 1979, and ultimately sold Sotheby's New York, Property from the Kentucky Residence of Dotty and Wendell Cherry which at the time sold for $50,000.
Condition
In good overall condition, with scattered minor staining to both ormolu palm trees. Scattered rusting to the supports of the rock crystal drops Scattered losses and a few small chips to the suspended rock crystal decorations. One small nick to the base of a marble pot. Of fine quality.
