The arched back panel surmounted by a covered urn, flanked by the pierced gallery, above the serpentine-fronted door opening to eight conforming graduating drawers, raised on a thin plinth base. Finely inlaid with neoclassical arabesques, drapery swags, ribbon-tied laurel swags, classical urns with addorsed lion heads and the like. Fitted with a secret locking mechanism.

Note: Comparable examples of George III cartonniers which exhibit similar marquetry inlay and gilt-metal work: The Irwin Untermeyer Collection at the Metropolitan Museum of Art, NY. Acquired in 1964, which is an example of a cartonnier sitting on a D-shaped cabinet. Another similar and fine example was sold at Mallett's 125th Anniversary which has the pedigree of John Pierpont Morgan.
