The figure 17 1/4 x 4 1/2 x 3 in.

Literature: S. Reinach, Vol. IV, p. 225, no. 2.

Note: The figure is posed in an unusual contrapposto position. The contrapposto figure originated in Greece in early 5th Century B.C. It was a reaction to the stiff static pose of earlier figural works. The contrapposto suggests a more relaxed organic movement which denotes life.

Condition

The figure has the loss of both arms. She is restored, as can be seen through the hole in her back, and the line on her left ankle. The figure has a soft uneven surface with minor nicks to her nose, crown and foot. Few abrasions throughout. Large and impressive in person.
