For over two decades, The Fortress has served as both a home and haven to Antonie Reinhard and the late Maurice Margules. Located in Troy, New York, this nationally recognized, historic property, listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 2013, holds significance both architecturally and for the exceptional collection it houses.

The serpentine oval top decorated with a formal walled topiary garden centered by a fountain and a wrought-iron gate, with two arbors, a pergola, trees and flower beds.

Note: An identical beaded top by the same workshop was sold at STAIR, The Collection of Mrs. John Gutfreund, Murray House, Villanova, PA, Lot 2, for $46,000. And other nearly identical tops from the same workshop have sold at Sotheby's, Amsterdam, Important Private Collection from Hanover, March 27, 2007, Lot 448 for £14,400; a gilded top sold Sotheby's, London, July 6, 2010, Lot 17 for £8,750; another example of an identical top sold Christie's, London, January 26, 2011, Lot 110 for £16,260 which came from The Dallas Pratt Collection, Christie's, London, March 16, 1995, Lot 92.

Condition

Generally, in good condition considering the age. There are three old repairs to the rim, the frame with a slight warp. Minor losses to the beading at the top and base with other scattered smaller losses. Two old repairs to the reverse and fitted with braces for a table base. Vibrant colors and beautifully rendered.
