Condit was an African-American pastor of the Presbyterian Church, originally from Newark, New Jersey, worked in Springfield, Massachusetts during the Civil War, ended up in Portland, Maine by the Reconstruction period. He was much published and respected. Col. Solomon Warriner (1788-1860), was Postmaster of Springfield for the year 1842.
