(frame).Note: An animal lover since childhood, painter Essie Seavey Lucas is best known for her portraits of horses, including the famous trotting mare, Lou Dillon, and the great thoroughbred, Man O'War. Here she painted three well-known Jersey cows: Agatha's Flying Fox, Agatha's Dainy Lady, and Agatha of Oaklands. Agatha's Flying Fox was puchased by White Plains, NY farmer Howard Willets for $5,000. Willets was a connoisseur of bloodlines and used Agatha's Flying Fox to sire many other Jerseys who sold for large sums.
