Gelatin silver print, 1942, signed, dated, inscribed '#4 Solarization' and with the artist's copyright inkstamp on the reverse. 13 1/2 x 10 1/4 in. (sheet), unframed.
Note: Erwin Blumenfeld is best known for his fashion photography for Vogue magazine in the 1940's and 50's. He liked experimenting with technique, using multiple exposures, photomontage and solarization, as here. He drew inspiration from the Dada artists whose influence can be seen in this image.
