Note: The fragment is probably the central element of the original tapestry's border, depicts the Royal Arms of Great Britain, following the Acts of Union 1707. The first and fourth quarters depict the impaled Royal Arms of England and Scotland. This format was only used between 1707 and 1714 (the last years of Queen Anne's reign). It is possible that the fragment is of English manufacture, the Crown having commissioned a number of tapestries from the Soho factory (then managed by John Vanderbank the Elder).
