12 x 9 1/2 in.
Note: Two of the intaglios included in this collection are the same model as one included in the British Museum catalog, described as follows:
"The Burch Catalogue of Gems no. 76 describes this as 'Neptune, a carnelian intaglio which belonged to the Royal Academy, London'.
'From an academy model, E.B.. Neptune is resting on his trident after having crowned the British navy with victory. The rudder is dedicated to him, on which is a wreath of laurel; the British flag is introduced to identify to whom the victory belongs, and a triton on the urn is founding his conque for joy.
This figure was presented to his Majesty as a proof of E.B.'s abilities, in his profession for which he was graciously pleased to sign his diploma as a Royal Academecian (sic).'"
The frame with several age splits, minor losses, old repairs, and losses to the back rim. The glass on the reverse is slightly loose within the frame.
