This English carved gilt wood, verre eglomise and penwork mirror specified by Frances Elkins (1881-1953) for the interior of Mrs. Evelyn Marshal Field, Muttontown, NY in 1931. Frances Elkins was best known for her California interiors, particularly her own home she built with her husband in Monterey, Casa Amesti. She and her older brother David Adler partnered on a number of legendary projects on both coasts, particularly the aforementioned house in Muttontown. Her interiors were furnished with and adroit mixture of antiques and haute moderne which this mirror reflects.
