Gelatin silver print on card, with the artist's inkstamp and inscribed 'Stuart Preston, better known as the "Immortal Sargeant"--see Evelyn Waugh and Jane Lee-Milnes memoirs' on the reverse.

13 1/2 x 10 1/2 in (sheet), 20 x 18 in. (frame).

Note: Stuart Preston was an art critic for The New York Times. Preston and Richardson maintained regular correspondence through letters while Richardson was living in France. In the forward to his book The Sorcerer's Apprentice, Richardson wrote that he relied on these letters during the course of writing his memoir.  Preston died in 2005 at the age of 89.
