The top with inset lacquer panel centered by a cypher below a coronet, fitted with a frieze drawer with enamel pulls.
29 1/2 x 33 x 26 in.
Notes:
Asian lacquer panels were incorporated into Dutch furniture at the beginning of the 18th century. In 1780s, Dutch furniture maker Matthijs Horrix supplied Princess Wilhelmina with a number of pieces inlaid with oriental lacquer and the practice was imitated by other cabinet-makers as well. The central coronet on the panel is that of 'schildknapp' in Dutch, or Esquire, an order in the hierarchy of Dutch nobility.
