Oil on canvas, signed 'D. Maillart' lower right. 13 x 16 in., 19 1/2 x 22 1/2 in. (frame).
Note: Diogène Ulysse Napoleon Maillart attended the Ecole Impériale de Dessin and the Ecole des Beaux Arts in Paris, studying under the painters Léon Cogniet and Eugène Delacroix. After Delacroix's death in 1863, Maillart took over his teacher's studio. Maillart is credited with being Picasso's first teacher, and was also the teacher of Edouard Vuillard.
