Watercolor and gouache on paper laid down on card, 1847, signed 'David Roberts' and dated lower left. 14 1/2 x 19 1/2 in. (sheet), 28 x 32 in. (frame).Note: Venice Canal is a fine example of the views of Venice painted by Roberts during visits to Italy. The city of Venice was an apt subject for Roberts who began his career as a stage set and theater designer.
