Oil on canvas, 1879, signed 'DC Grose' and dated lower right, lined. 11 1/4 x 17 1/4 in., 13 3/4 x 20 in. (frame).Note: Canadian painter Daniel Charles Grose travelled extensively between 1860 and 1880, painting in the Hudson Valley, Connecticut and Maine. This subject appears to be a composite of his travels, showing a river landscape similar to the Hudson River, but with the addition of palm trees and succulent foliage.
