The top fitted with a back splash, over two frieze drawers above two short drawers and a deep bottle drawer flanked by a pair of paneled doors each enclosing one shelf and flanked by spiral-twist columnar supports, raised on acanthus carved paw feet. Purportedly signed in red ink on underside of top board.

Note: Caleb Carter Burroughs (1799-1885) was a cabinet-maker and undertaker in Madison, New Jersey. He was apprenticed at age sixteen for five years and having learned his trade he established his successful business in Madison. This sideboard may well have been the culmination of his apprenticeship.
