Note: Damia was a popular cabaret singer in Paris the 1920's and 30's.  Admired by Picasso and Cocteau, she was called 'la tragidienne' of song. Her work foreshadowed that of Edith Piaf and she became a cult figure in Parisian lesbian circles.
