Crayon on paper, 1961, signed 'Carl Sprinchorn' and dated lower right, titled at right edge, titled and inscribed 'The year when almost everyone was there' on a separate piece of paper, with label from Gallery Gertrude Stein, NY. 11 x 8 1/2 in. (sheet), 21 1/2 x 16 1/2 in. (frame).
Note: Playwright Eugene O'Neill came to Provincetown in 1916 at the age of twenty-seven looking for a venue for his first play, Bound East for Cardiff. He directed it in a fishing shack at the end of Lewis Wharf. Provincetown became an art colony and gathering place for American Modernists including the Zorachs, Maurice Sterne, Marsden Hartley and Charles Demuth.
Condition: Pale light-staining. Otherwise in good condition.
