Carved stone, signed 'Jos Csaky' on the side.

13 x 6 x 6 in.

Note: Though not included in Félix Marcilhac's Joseph Csaky: Catalogue Raisonné des Sculptures, this sculpture is similar to those Csaky made in the early 1920s in Paris. Born in Hungary, Csaky moved to Paris in 1908 and would become a naturalized French citizen in 1922. Csaky worked in many of the 20th century's avant-garde styles and in different materials, including marble, terracotta, metal and stone, as here. Czaky was an early supporter of the tenets of Cubism, applying it to his sculpture but also allowing his work to evolve into a more figurative representation as he matured. This work combines Cubist forms with incised line designs.
