13 1/2 x 20 in., 18 x 24 1/2 in. (frame).

Note: Once attributed to marine painter Richard Paton (1717-1791), it is now thought that this painting is by Dominic Serres , a better-known and more prolific painter of naval scenes. Serres was a founding member of the Royal Academy and one of the best marine painters of the 18th century. A sketch of this subject is illustrated in Dominic Serres R.A. 1719-1793 War Artist to the Navy, by Alan Russett, page 145, noting "no finished painting known."
