Stenciled 'Admiral Blake and Captain William C. Hathaway, 1860'. 5 ft. 6 3/4 in. x 25 1/4 x 1 in. Note: The schooner, Admiral Blake was a famous whaler which sailed out of Marion, Massachusetts in the 19th Century. William C. Hathaway was it's captain who searched the Atlantic for whale oil. According to the logbook of 1860, which is currently in the Providence Rhode Island Library, Captain Hathaway's voyage started in April to the Atlantic whaling grounds. He struck the first Sperm whale on August 3rd and returned to port in September.
