Note: According to Jules David Prown's <I>John Singleton Copley in America,<P> a portrait of Mrs. Thomas Cranston attributed to Copley was reviewed at the Museum of Fine Arts, Boston. The attribution was found to be erroneous. That portrait was similar in size to this work, and was dated c. 1758.
