Four daguerreotypes, two framed together, all in tooled leather velvet-lined cases.
Largest 3 1/2 x 2 3/8 in. (oval), three 2 1/2 x 2 in. (two oval, one rectangle).
Note: The sitters in these photographs are of members of the Tefft family of Schenectady, NY. They were likely taken circa 1850 in Albany where the Meade Brothers had set up the first daguerreotype studio in 1842. Henry Meade was 20 years old at the time; his brother Charles was only 16 years old. Together with their sister, Mary Ann, the Meade Brothers introduced daguerreotype photography to upstate New York before moving to Williamsburg, Brooklyn. Charles Meade died in 1858 leaving Mary Ann in charge of the studio where she became the first female daguerreotypist.
