Watercolor on paper, 1979, signed 'Alphaeus P. Cole' and dated lower left, with label from Previti Gallery, NY. 17 1/2 x 13 1/2 in. (sight), 27 x 22 in. (frame). Note: Born in Jersey City, New Jersey in 1876, Alphaeus Philemon Cole would go on to become the world's oldest living man at the time, dying in his Chelsea Hotel apartment in New York City at the age of 112 years and 136 days. Before reaching his 'Supercentenarian' status, Cole studied art in Italy, Paris and in England before returning to the United States in 1911. Cole actively painted until the age of 103.
