Simon Schmiderer, from whose estate this drawing (and the following two lots) comes, was an architect. Schmiderer likely met Alexander Calder while working for the firm Harrison and Abramovitz on the United Nations. Schmiderer worked on the General Assembly Building from 1947 to 1950. Calder did not design a work for the UN at the time of construction, but the two men frequented the same circles in New York. The Calder Foundation is currently researching these works.
