Pastel on beige paper, unsigned, inscribed 'Puvigny' at top, with an indistictly inscribed label on the back of the frame.

14 1/4 x 10 1/2 in. (sheet), 23 1/2 x 20 1/2 in. (frame).

Note: Louise-Claire Hamoche-Puvigné (c. 1735-1779), known as Mlle. Puvingé, was a dancer in the Opéra Comique. Neil Jeffares references this image of her in his book Pastels and Pastellists,. The image reproduced in his book is identical to this image, with provenance given as the artist's studio and Jean-Francois La Tour. Without provenance for this drawing, we are not able to confirm whether it is the work referenced by Jeffares, or a copy of it. 

Condition

Sheet laid down on paper. Losses and tears around the sheet edges. Some staining and surface soiling.
