Note: The subject of this photograph is Man Ray's 1933 sculpture The Lovers, made of rolled lead and rope and said to represent his tormented relationship with model and photographer Lee Miller. The original The Lovers was lost after being exhibited in 1936. An edition of nine was made under Man Ray's direction in 1973 using a photograph of the original as a design template. This photograph was taken by Philippe Guérin (b. 1952).
