Note: This work was reviewed by Dr. Ursel Berger who could not definitely attribute this work to Maillol. A certificate of authenticity from Dina Vierny accompanied the work when it was purchased from The Slademore Gallery, London, in 2005. The certificate no longer accompanies the work. On November 9, 1999, Christie's offered a cast of this bronze with the same numbering as the cast here, 4/6. It was unsold. At the time of that offering, the provenance was given as Dina Vierny, Paris; Galeria Conkright, Caracas.
