Bronze, inscribed with initials 'SB' lower back and with the C. Valsuani Foundry stamp, with label from Worth Avenue Gallery, Palm Beach. 12 1/2 x 10 x 8 in. (without base).Note: The Valsuani Foundry was founded by brothers Claude and Attillo Valsuani who both trained at the Hebard Foundry. In 1908, Claude moved the Foundry to Paris where he worked with various artists on small sculptures using the cire perdue technique of casting. Among the better known sculptors who cast at Valsuani were Renoir, Matisse, Picasso and Gaugin. Claude died in 1923 and his son, Marcele, took over the foundry and continued to produce bronzes until the 1970's. The Foundry merged with the foundry Airaindor, and in 1985 was renamed Chevreuse, the name under which it continues to operate today.
